Citation Styles

How to Use This Section

This section highlights some of the style manuals used within science, technology and other disciplines which have disciplinary guides and manuals. In some cases, the sciences use one of the standard styles [e.g., Chicago, etc.], a style developed by a disciplinary association or organization [e.g., American Chemical Society, etc.], or they may rely on the guidelines established by journals in the discipline.  These guides vary greatly and could include everything from the size of margins to the use of correct nomenclature. Information that may be of use for student papers would be how to cite references, how to format the paper, and writing tips.

This page highlights some of the major citation styles but is not meant to be exhaustive. For additional information, consult the Library Guide created for the specific subject area you need. Subject librarians often insert style guide information in their subject guides.
